Where an appointment happens is a practical question with real limits
Consulting-room details, access information and travel directions are given to you in your appointment confirmation. No address, opening hours or map is published here until it has been verified for the room you would actually be attending.
In person
When an in-person appointment is arranged, your confirmation sets out the full address, the entrance to use, how to let the clinician know you have arrived, and the arrangements for waiting. It also covers step-free access, lift availability, accessible facilities, nearby public transport and parking, so that you are not working any of it out on the day.
If any of those things would affect whether you can attend, say so when you first make contact. It is easier to arrange a suitable room from the beginning than to change one later.
We do not publish location pages for towns or districts we do not hold a room in. Pages like that exist to catch searches, and they waste the time of the person who travels there.
Video & telephone
A video call can cross a border. A practitioner's licence usually cannot.
Remote appointments are offered by some clinicians, for some kinds of work, and only where they are permitted to practise in the place you will be sitting during the session, not the place they are sitting. Because registration and licensing are regional, this is a genuine limit rather than a formality, and it is checked before a remote appointment is agreed.
Remote work is also not equally suitable for everything. Some assessment work must be done in person, and some situations are better held in a room. A clinician will say if that applies.
For a remote session you need a private space where you will not be overheard, a reasonable connection, and a telephone number the clinician can use if the call drops.
Before a remote first appointment
- The region you will be attending from is confirmed.
- The platform to be used, and how you will receive the link, is explained.
- A fallback telephone number is agreed in case of connection trouble.
- The fee and cancellation terms are confirmed in writing.
