Four formats of care, described as they actually run

Everything below is a way of arranging appointments, not a treatment for a named condition. Which format suits you is worked out in conversation with a clinician, not from a page.

Availability

Whether a given format is open at the moment, and with which clinician, is confirmed when you enquire. No waiting times or appointment slots are published here.

  • Who it may be relevant for

People come to individual work for very different reasons, and it is not reserved for situations that have become severe. It may be worth considering if something has been difficult for a while, if you keep arriving at the same point, or if you want a considered place to think that is separate from the rest of your life.

    How it begins

A first appointment is a conversation, not an intake questionnaire. The clinician will ask what brought you and what you are hoping for, describe how they work, and say honestly whether they are the right person. You are free to end it there.

    Appointment format

Typically weekly or fortnightly, in person or by video or telephone where that is appropriate and permitted. Session length and frequency are agreed with your clinician.

Concerns people bring

We do not publish a page for every difficulty or diagnosis. Lists like that tend to invite people to identify themselves with a label from a website, which is the opposite of a careful assessment. Describe what is happening in your own words when you make contact, and it will be taken from there.
